The New Rose

Vibrant Faith Ministries provides resources for children, youth and family ministries. They just announced that Dr Phyllis Tickle was added to their board of directors. Dr Tickle is a lay eucharistic minister and lector in the Episcopal Church and a mother of seven children. She lives on a small farm in Lucy, Tennessee. She has honorary doctoral degrees from Yale University and North Park University.

Dr. Tickle’s recent book “The Great Emergence” reframes how congregations and denominations might think about doing ministry in America today. In her presentation at the 2007 National Youth Workers Conference (Youth Specialties), The New Rose, she talks about the emerging church. We make efforts to empower young people, and struggle with “viability norms”. But all the time we’re doing this, the whole concept of what we call “church” is undergoing a transformation. Her presentation is 41 minutes, but taking the time to view it is worth it.
